BMW X5 Maintenance Cost in Germany: What the Price Covers
Compare German BMW X5 oil-service price examples, separate servicing from wear and repairs, and request a VIN-specific workshop quote.

A published German BMW X5 oil-service benchmark is €220–€340 including VAT—not the cost of a complete maintenance visit or a year’s ownership. BMW dealer Kruft in Oberhausen lists that range for “X5 / larger engines”; Ernst & Lappe in Essen lists indicative starting prices of €269–€339 for petrol and diesel X5/X6 models in the G05/G06 generations. Both require vehicle-specific details to confirm the price. (Kruft prices, Ernst & Lappe prices)

What those oil-service prices include
| Provider and vehicle category | Published price, including VAT | Listed scope |
|---|---|---|
| Kruft, Oberhausen: X5 / larger engines | €220–€340, indicative range | Original BMW oil and filter, seals, service reset and waste-oil disposal |
| Ernst & Lappe, Essen: X5/X6 G05/G06, petrol or diesel | €269–€339, described as starting guide prices | Original BMW oil and filter, seals, disposal, service reset and service-history entry |
The useful comparison is oil service against oil service. Neither listed scope promises a brake-fluid change, cabin-filter replacement, spark plugs or new brake pads.
Oil specification, quantity and labour requirements affect the bill. Both dealers say the final price depends on the exact vehicle; Ernst & Lappe specifically identifies the VIN—called FIN in Germany—oil specification and fill quantity. Do not automatically apply its petrol/diesel G05 example to an older X5, an X5 M or a plug-in hybrid. Ask for a quote for your actual variant. (Kruft’s price factors, Ernst & Lappe’s pricing terms)
Why a complete visit can cost more
Ask the workshop to divide the estimate into three groups:
- Scheduled maintenance: oil service, vehicle check, filters, brake fluid and applicable spark-plug work.
- Wear items: tyres, brake pads, brake discs and wipers.
- Fault diagnosis and repairs: work needed because something has failed or a warning requires investigation.
BMW itself distinguishes maintenance under Service Inclusive from additional wear coverage under Service Inclusive Plus, which includes items such as brake pads and discs. A brake-fluid service is therefore not the same purchase as a brake replacement. (BMW’s package scope)
Before pricing the visit, record the service items and due dates shown by your car and check the service history. Our BMW X5 maintenance guide explains how to identify what is due without assuming that every “inspection” includes the same work.
How to budget per year
Do not turn one oil-service price into an annual maintenance estimate. Instead, ask the workshop to price the work expected over your next 24 months, using your current mileage, planned driving and service records. Divide that scheduled-maintenance total by two for an annual budgeting allowance. This spreads the expected cost for saving purposes; individual years may cost different amounts, and it is not a long-term forecast or a spending cap.
Keep anticipated tyre and brake replacement separate, and allow separately for repairs based on the car’s condition. This makes the budget useful when comparing two used X5s: a low routine-service quote does not tell you whether either car needs immediate wear or repair work.
If considering BMW Service Inclusive, compare its vehicle-specific price and time/mileage limits with those same scheduled jobs. BMW says package pricing depends on the model and selected duration or mileage. Covered work must become due under the car’s Condition Based Service system, and entitlement ends when either the selected mileage or duration is reached. A prepaid service is not free maintenance, and the package name alone does not establish repair protection. (BMW package calculator, Service Inclusive terms and scope)
Do not assume you can add Service Inclusive Plus to a used X5: BMW currently lists it as bookable only within the first three months after a new car’s first registration. (BMW coverage and eligibility)
For an older X5, also ask whether Service 5+ or Service 8+ applies. BMW advertises these for cars older than five or eight years respectively, measured from first registration to the service appointment. The advertised minimum discounts are 20% and 30% against BMW’s recommended prices for selected parts, brake fluid and corresponding labour allowances, for selected services and models at participating partners—not a blanket reduction on every invoice. Request a comparable German workshop quote
Send the same information to a BMW partner and an independent BMW specialist: FIN/VIN, exact variant, mileage, service-display details and recent invoices. Request:
- Each due maintenance item priced separately, including labour and VAT.
- The oil approval, quantity and parts specification.
- Any charges for disposal, diagnostics, service-history recording or replacement transport.
- Wear and repair recommendations separated from scheduled servicing.
- A written total or cost ceiling, with approval required before extra work.
ADAC recommends recording workshop agreements in writing, specifying the work and obtaining a written estimate or agreed cost ceiling. That is a better safeguard than authorising an undefined “full service.” (ADAC workshop advice)
