Useful info, suggestions and tips for travelers in Germany
The Festival of Lights in Berlin is now at its seventh edition. For ten days the major palaces, tourist centers, and religious institutions of the city will be decorated with thousands of colored lights set up by internationally renowned artists. This is the greatest show of lights and lighting in the world, and attracts millions of tourists from all over Germany and Europe.
The Festival of Lights is an important event for the city of Berlin, with cultural and technological events of the highest level, where art, design and creativity come together in a zero-emission event. The energy used will be balanced by massive afforestations in Germany and worldwide.
So also this year, from October 12 to 23, Berlin will shine with lights and colors. The festival is organized by Zander & Partner and directed by Birgit Zander in collaboration with the lighting designer Andreas Boehlke, who was among the promoters years ago.
The major hub of the event will be the district of Potsdamer Platz which will shine in the evenings with spectacular illuminations: the great square of Berlin, which will host the event’s opening and closing celebrations with great fireworks shows, will also host the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, info-points for citizens and tourists.
More than a dozen buildings and religious institutions will be involved in the lights show, including the large television tower, the Parliament building, the Brandenburg Gate and the Cathedral, but also in other smaller centers will take place dedicated events organized by internationally renowned artists.
Moreover, the institutions organizing the Festival of Lights also make available special bus tours that will allow citizens and tourists to visit the lit up monuments. Walking tours and those on river Spree will make you enjoy the illuminated sights more closely.
