Useful hints and tips for travelers in Germany
This is one of the oldest festivals in Europe, nearly a thousand years old, and takes place in Bremen in mid-October. The Bremen Freimarkt Fair, 14 days of collective madness, between markets, amusement parks, food, parades with floats and parties lasting from morning to evening. The reason for this spree?
The year was 1035 when the Emperor Conrad II granted people the right to hold a fair in the squares and streets of Bremen. Since then they have never stopped. So it is that since 1035, Bremen celebrates the right enshrined by the Emperor to hold a public market, open to all arts and crafts and all kinds of merchandise.
For 14 days the city is transformed and becomes a huge outdoor stage where everyone has something to show or sell and all are involved in fun and frenzy.
For 14 days no one can complain about the noise and chaos, the scents and smells that permeate Marktplatz and the whole area of the celebration. The great amusement park set up for the occasion extends over an area of 100 thousand square meters, with more than 300 attractions, including the most modern and spectacular.
The atmosphere is a little quieter in the great market, with hundreds of stalls of all kinds, from antiques to food, from crafts to gastronomy. In the middle weekend of this great celebration, will be held parades of floats, with thousands of people in traditional costumes.
There are millions of tourists flocking to Bremen over the two weeks, to take part in this collective event. Two and three star Hotels in Bremen are overwhelmed with bookings made even months in advance. Also because during the Freimarkt, throughout the evening and until late at night there are dozens of concerts of all genres, from pop to rock, jazz and Dixieland.
