The Festival of Lights in Berlin is now at its seventh edition. For ten days the major palaces, tourist centers, and religious institutions of the city will be decorated with thousands of colored lights set up by internationally renowned artists. This is the greatest show of lights and lighting in the world, and attracts millions of tourists from all over Germany and Europe.

Zwiebelmarkt, the onion market, is a great event held in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany, since 1635. In the three days of the Zwiebelmarkt, the city is filled with the flavor of onions and many agricultural products are exhibited and sold in hundreds of stalls in the main squares of the city. More than 350 000 tourists flock to Weimar every year to attend the Onion Festival: a great number of people considering that the city has just over 65 000 inhabitants.

Last year there were over 40 thousand participants in the Berlin Marathon, a spectacular route of about 42 kilometers that winds through the historical centre of the city. The Berlin Marathon is part of the World Marathon Majors circuit, which involves the cities of Boston, Chicago, London and New York City.

Not only Munich has an Oktoberfest. Even in Stuttgart, since 1816, in early October is held a beer festival of all respect. Actually, there’s who appreciates it more than the one in Munich: less chaotic, less touristy and more traditional. This is Cannstatter Volksfest, held in the district of Bad Cannstatt in Stuttgart.
