New Year’s 2013 in Germany will be a celebration in the spirit of tradition. German squares, roads, restaurants, clubs and theaters will be crowded with locals and tourists alike, all ready to celebrate the new year with a toast of Feuerzangenbowle, a traditional drink of some fraternities made with red wine, rum, orange peel, cinnamon and cloves. New Year’s Eve in Berlin will be as usual in the name of unbridled celebration in the streets with its clou moment at the Brandenburg Gate, while in Stuttgart the appointment will be at the Kunstmuseum Civic Art Museum, in Schlossplatz. In Munich, New Year’s is also passion, love and revenge with Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

For beer lovers, this could be the trip of a lifetime. Destination: Bavaria – towards Munich, to be on the great lawn of Theresienwiese (‘Wiesn’ for Müncheners) on September 22nd at noon, waiting for the Mayor to tap the first keg to kick off the most famous Oktoberfest in Germany. On September 28th, then, a quick shift to Stuttgart to attend the Cannstatter Volksfest, which lasts until Oct. 14th. At this point, five days for an easy trip to Bremen (750 km to the north) to attend the inauguration of Bremen Beer Festival, from October 19th to November 4th.

Stuttgart, Capital City of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, is an interesting city from many points of view. It’s a city full of monuments, home to an important trade fair, and it boasts a high cultural standard, with plenty of events, concerts and shows held throughout the year. Stuttgart is also very famous because its Bad Cannstatt district is home to Europe’s largest spa: more than 19 sources, of which 11 are considered therapeutic. In the same district there is the Wilhelma zoo, hosted within the famous Rosensteinpark, and a major event is held every year in September, the beer festival Cannstatter Volksfest.

There are more than two and a half million visitors every year flocking to the great outdoors Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart: all in a row to admire more than 1000 animal species and over 6000 plant species in the botanical gardens. The park is open all year, just at different times depending on the season. The entrance for a couple with children is 30 Euros, but the show that you can attend is well worth the ticket price.

Not only Munich has an Oktoberfest. Even in Stuttgart, since 1816, in early October is held a beer festival of all respect. Actually, there’s who appreciates it more than the one in Munich: less chaotic, less touristy and more traditional. This is Cannstatter Volksfest, held in the district of Bad Cannstatt in Stuttgart.

For over 30 years in Stuttgart, at the end of August, wine is celebrated with an important colorful and festive event. In the central square, the Schlossplatz, and in the Schlossgarten, dozens of food and wine stands are set up where you can sample local wines such as Riesling, Schillerwein and Trollinger.

The 18th edition of the International Festival of Animated Film (Internationales Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart), will be inaugurated in Stuttgart on May 3, while in Oberhausen, 30 kilometers north of Düsseldorf, there will be the 57th edition of the International Short Film Festival (Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen).
