Munich: Winter Festival Tollwood. Celebrations, events and food until New Year’s.

From November 23 until December 31, in the large Theresienwiese lawn of Munich, which already hosts the Oktoberfest, will be held a wonderful event that is very limiting to call a “Christmas Market.” Indeed, in addition to the classic wooden houses and stalls where all the objects of the Christmas tradition are sold, the Winter Festival Tollwood will also include numerous artistic performances, theater and circus, concerts and the chance to taste the wine & food products from all around Europe.

The Winter Festival Tollwood is especially an international festival of music and theater that develops in the shadow of more than 200 stalls selling food and crafts, which pay particular attention to the world of organic. Dozens of artistic events have been scheduled, including music, theatre and entertainment for adults and children: over three-quarters of these, are completely free.

The Tollwood Festival is held every two years, and foresees a summer and a winter edition. This is festival of Arts and crafts which in recent years has studied consumer strategies and energy preservation and ecological policies to be a Zero impact event.

The Festival starts on November 23 and lasts until New Year’s Eve, when there will be a great celebration with concerts and at midnight a incredible fireworks show. Throughout the period, the cultural activity will be marked by meetings, conferences, debates, exhibitions and artistic installations, for the delight of millions of visitors gathering every year at the Theresienwiese (reachable by underground U4 and U5).

The motto of this 2011 edition is “Aufgetischt,” meaning “served” (at table). On this issue, will focus all the meeting and conferences, with a very precise criticism on consumer lifestyles and the new tendency to genetic manipulation of food. In the Pavilion of diversity, will be presented with exhibitions and meetings, all the problems related to “false promises” made by food manufacturers around the world, with demonstrations on natural and organic alternatives.

Worthy of note will be the artistic performances by four Nouveau Cirque, circus avant-garde productions presented by young talents, in which the artistic abilities of the human body will see their maximum expression.
