The Potsdam Music Festival is a traditional appointment held in the magnificent setting of the park of Sanssouci Palace and other locations of the city. The theme for the 2011 festival is ” Saxon Splendor in the and Prussian Glory.”

The Music Festival of Potsdam, Musikfestspiele, international event of classical music, is a fascinating and intense moment, which attracts visitors from all over Europe. And it could not be otherwise for an event that is part of the history of Germany since the time of the Prussian monarchy.

The Festival takes place in a truly beautiful location, the park of the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, which many people consider the direct rival of Versailles. The castle is a Rococo masterpiece, and consists of several buildings, including the Neues Palais, a beautiful Baroque palace, and the Orangerie, built inspired by the Italian Renaissance.

Musikfestspiele 2011 will see the participation of internationally renowned artists such as Vivica Genaux, Rachel Podger, Konrad Junghänel, Alexis Kossenko, Sächsische Staatskapelle from Dresden, the Orchestra of Cologne and many others.

The beautiful and historic city of Potsdam, about twenty kilometers from Berlin, boasts plenty of tourist accommodation, with several hotels in the city centre, along the Gutenbergstrasse and Schopenhauerstrasse.

The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the main places of interest, worth a mention the Marble Palace, the Babelsberg Castle, the old town hall, the Glienicker Brücke bridge, the cathedral and the St.Nikolaikirchen.
