Leipziger Buchmesse: The Leipzig Book Fair – March 17-20, 2011

The Leipzig Book Fair is a major event for the publishing industry in Europe. In 2010 the fair experienced record attendance bringing together over 2,000 publishers from 39 countries, and 156,000 visitors of which 45.000 were operators.

The Leipzig Book Fair involves the whole city, because in addition to the events at the fairgrounds – with over 1,500 participants / publishers – in many other locations in Leipzig there are cultural meetings related to the ‘Leipzig liest‘, the great festival of literature.

Leipziger Buchmesse is not only a time of presentation of books, authors and trends, or a place where to find business contacts, but also opportunities for training and retraining as well as meeting point for all the European literary environment.

The fair is divided into several areas of interest: fiction and non-fiction, audio books, magazines, art books, travel books, children’s books, comics, service providers in the book trade, etc.; and major topics: young German literature, literature from Central and Eastern Europe, education, audio books and music, audio books and music.

In the days of the fair, if you wish to sleep in Leipzig, advanced booking for any type of hotel and B & B is essential.

How to reach the Exhibition Center in Leipzig:

  • By car: the fair is at the ‘Leipzig Messegelände’ exit of the A 14 motorway (Hanover-Dresden) and near the Schkeuditzer junction between the A14 and A9 Berlin – Munich
  • By train: from the station square, take the tram line 16 to the fairgrounds (20 minutes)
  • By plane: from the airport, the Flughafen Express bus line – operated by German Railways – leads to the fair (10 minutes)
