Useful hints and tips for travelers in Germany
Frankfurt, Germany’s financial hub par excellence, hosts many national and international exhibitions throughout the year. Among these, the IAA – Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, is highly regarded given the predominant role of the automotive industry in the economy of the country.
Needless to say, the large Messe Frankfurt area is one of the main tourist attractions of the city itself. Here are held major events such as the International Book Fair, Environment or the main European music fairs. Now at its 65th edition, Frankfurt IAA is scheduled for September 12 to 22, 2013.
Frankfurt International Car Show is the trade show where the most famous German car manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes in particular are the masters with their news, initiatives, showcases and innovative proposals.
Surprisingly enough, the first edition of IAA dates back to 115 years ago, when in 1897, eight motor vehicles were exhibited at Berlin’s Bristol Hotel. The great success of this event resulted in the organization of periodic exhibitions for cars and commercial vehicles, until, thanks to the high number of visitors and exhibitors, starting from 1991, Frankfurt Motor Show has become a regular appointment that takes place every two years at Frankfurt trade fair, in Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1.
Frankfurt International Car Show is the most complete motor show in the world with regard to the automotive industry and is aimed at all those who develop, produce or use cars. A special feature is the presence of companies involved in the automotive industry, so not just car manufacturers. Over 300 exhibitors in the automotive industry will take part in the event to display and advertise their products.
IAA boasts the presence of a wide range of products on display, including of course cars and special motor vehicles with two- or three-wheels, but also parts and accessories, products used for operation, care, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, model cars, professional literature and protective clothing.
Professionals can participate in conventions and conferences dealing with the automotive industry, such as “carIT-Congress” or the interesting and very current “Electric Mobility Congress.” Special exhibitions and specialized events will be also organized, as well as a series of activities of pure entertainment for families and children, such as test rides, SUV-track, kid’s cinema and exhibitions for vintage cars or items relating to the world of electric mobility.
Those wishing to participate in this extraordinary event can book a flight to Frankfurt and then reach Frankfurt Messe by public transport from Frankfurt Central Station (tram no. 6, tram no. 7 or S-Bahn suburban railway – lines S3 , S4, S5 or S6 – get off at the stop “Messe”) or by car – take the autobahn exit Frankfurt West / Messe or any other exit signposted with IAA signs. Show hours are from 9am to 7pm.
Messe Frankfurt is located in Westend, in the western part of Frankfurt. The hotels near Messe Frankfurt are among the most beautiful and appreciated in the city and are within walking distance from some of the most interesting sights of Frankfurt, like the Messeturm skyscraper and the Hammering Man. A good opportunity, therefore, to enjoy even the most purely “leisure” aspects of a city that is considered by many nothing more than a business city, but in fact also has many cultural attractions to offer.
